BIOGRAPHY
Burhan ÖZALP, MD was born in 1980 in Istanbul. After completing his primary, secondary and high school education in Istanbul, he achieved outstanding success in the university entrance exam and commenced his medical education at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa Medical School), one of the most established and respected institutions in the medical community and received the title of Medical Doctor in 2004. Completing the examination for a specialty in medicine (TUS) with a rank in his first trial following his graduation from the medical school, he started his specialty education in the Plastic Surgery Department of Istanbul Faculty of Medicine which he graduated from.
Burhan Özalp, MD who found the opportunity to attend thousands of operations together with academicians, who are well- respected in their specialty areas, in Turkey’s most established plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery clinic studied microsurgery at the University of Zurich in Switzerland in 2008. Having been trained in the Hand Surgery Division of the Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department, he has successfully carried out various microsurgical operations that can only be performed in advanced centres. In June 2011, he completed his thesis titled “Impact of Coenzyme Q10 in Inferior Epigastric Island Flap for Preventing Venous Reperfusion Injury in Rats” and received the title of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist. This study was later published in the Journal of Surgical Research (indexed by SCI), a prestigious scientific journal.
Following his specialization training, he was assigned to Dicle University Medical School via the lot for the fulfilment of his compulsory service obligation. Burhan Özalp, MD continued to work in the reference university hospital of his region during his specialization period. He then continued to work as an Associate Professor at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, where he started to work as a specialist. Burhan Özalp, MD who performed numerous aesthetic operations in the Plastic Surgery Department of Dicle University, which serves to both of the Eastern Anatolia Region and the South-eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, also successfully carried out thousands of operations in different fields such as hand surgery, nerve injuries, tendon transfers, limb amputations, skin cancer treatment, burn treatment, and facial bone fractures.
He was the first plastic surgeon who performed nerve repair and tendon transfers in the treatment of brachial plexus injuries at Dicle University, thanks to the relevant training he had received during his assistantship at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. He was again the first physician, who successfully performed the free transfer of perforator based free tissue, one of the most difficult microsurgical operations, in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Dicle University. Successful results of his operations on complex soft tissue loss in children’s legs and feet due to traffic accidents or burns were published in the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, one of the most prestigious journals of Plastic Surgery.
Burhan Özalp, MD who wanted to increase his knowledge and experience in the field of aesthetic surgery, was granted a special admission of Prof. James Zins, MD – the President of Cleveland Clinic, one of the world’s leading cosmetic surgery clinics – to participate in his operations as an observer in 2014. Within this period, he had the opportunity to learn the newest aesthetic surgical procedures and the specifics of facelift operations from Zins, MD who is one of the best doctors performing these operations worldwide.
In October 2014, he successfully completed the two-stage examinations of European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) and was awarded the EBOPRAS certificate. Since then, Burhan Özalp, MD has focused on the field of plastic surgery and his operations on fat-filling of the face, the technique he used for THE enlargement of breasts following tissue loss, surgical treatment of male breast growth (gynecomastia), and studies of post cleft lip and rhinoplasty were published in the most prestigious international journals of Plastic Surgery.
Burhan Özalp, MD who was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2018, accumulated valuable academic and surgical know-how during his 15 years of nonstop work at university hospitals between 2004-2018. In these institutions, where surgical medical training was given through master-apprentice relationship, he had the opportunity to transfer the knowledge and experience, he has gained from his teachers to the students and the plastic surgery assistants of the medical faculty. During his 7-year study at Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital, he worked as a thesis advisor for a specialty in medicine and contributed to the training of tens of plastic surgery assistants. Assoc. Prof. Burhan Özalp, MD continues his professional career as a freelance physician.
